Gerry Young

Gerry began his martial arts training in 1999 in Hapkido and started to incorporate BJJ in his training in 2002 with Adam Newton. In Mid 2002 Gerry left Hobart and moved to Launceston, in the states north, and benefited from diverse martial arts training. During the 2 years Gerry lived in Launceston he continued to train in Hapkido gaining his First Dan in 2003, At this time Gerry also gained experience in Aikido and Taekwondo. While in Launceston Gerry continued to train in BJJ with several of the area's top coaches.

After returning to Hobart in 2004 Gerry opened a Hapkido club called Progressive Hapkido and continued to train in BJJ with Adam Newton and Billy Burton at the Hobart PCYC. In 2005 Gerry attended No-Gi classes taught by Clancy Roberts at Tigers Eye Muay Thai, after Clancy had to mave for personal reasons, Gerry was offered the position of BJJ instructor. Gerry remained with Tigers Eye for a year, where he spent some time training in Muay Thai, before combining with BJJ Hobart for the implementation of Hybrid Training Centre. Gerry now runs Hobart Martial Arts Academy, the premier training facility in Hobart and was awarded his Black Belt in BJJ by Adam Newton and Thiago Stefanutti in October 2016, making Gerry one of the first in the state to reach this coveted rank.

Gerry has extensive experience coahing all aspects of BJJ, Submission Wrestling and MMA.Gerry is also an experienced
MMA ref and Judge.
